I’m a sucker for abandoned cars and buildings, and musta drove past this one many times, but never noticed it as I always approached from the North. Yesterday I was coming from the South and saw this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! sitting in front of a similarly neglected building.

Kinja'd!!!

Poor thing’s had all its windows smashed.

And I’m not sure if it had seats at one point (and a complete dash) or if they were stolen. The fact that none of the lights are broken, and there is as much left of it as there is makes me wonder how long its been sitting. If this had been in the city, I’m sure vandals would have taken, or taken a blunt object to them long ago.

There was a box of parts in the cabin and some miscellany in the bed, leading me to believe it was/is someone’s project.

Looks like it dragged up from AZ, where it last lived it seems until the plates expired in ‘98.

The building it is in front of:

Lots of faded warning signs about flammable materials, I wonder what it was used for, and if it currently is being used.

Edit: Forgot I was going to check Google Maps before posting. Looks like it’s been there since 2013, according to the Street View date. Its been moved out of the field, but otherwise left untouched. I wonder if they pulled it out to sell it. I should check craigslist...

I believe that’s a 1973 Elco.

I didn’t feel like being too much of a creeper and start grabbing vins or popping hoods.

What a shame. I feel a bit sad for the old guy.

Yeah, some people don’t take kindly to that. The building looks abandoned to me though. Do people still live/work there?

I don’t think so. I don’t drive past it often. On Google Maps it looks like its being used for a parking lot.

I checked the tax data of the land plot, and its owned by a guy that runs a powersports part and painting company in town. Maybe he uses it for storage?

That would make sense. Might be a car brought to him to work on that never got together?

Who knows. Gotta love the mystery though!

I had an almost identical Chevelle Malibu. El Camino would be a fun one to save, but this looks to be beyond saving.

I’m sure the years sitting in the weeds has not done good things to the frame and floors. :(

That thing is salvageable. Wonder if it’s one of those “restore it someday” cars, or the owner ran into some hardships.
